MY FIRST METEORITE, HOLBROOK
03/2011
On
the evening of July 19, 1912, a series of loud booming sounds followed by
several explosions was heard over the sky in Navajo County, Arizona. The meteor
passed due east over the town of Holbrook and it was witnessed as it exploded
about a mile or two in the air. Thousands of stones, many of them pea
sized, fell to the ground near the Aztec Rail Yard.
The fall was documented by W. M. Foote in his monograph Preliminary Note on the Shower of Meteoritic Stones at Aztec, near Holbrook, Navajo County, Arizona
